This unusual looking knife is the product of a quite common knifemaking occurence; that you don't always have to bin a ruined blade, you just make a smaller knife!
Well, this blade started life as a 'chonky cleaver' but after several unsuccessful attempts to appease my perfectionist tendencies and shelving this blade for a considerable time, I suddenly saw potential and decided to come back to it, altering its design and purpose.
What it has become is something I actually really like and will likely be making more of in the future.
With a blade a tad longer than a parer but with double the blade depth and excellent finger clearance, I can only describe it as a 'parer meets santoku'.The flat edge is ideally suited to chopping or push cutting and as such this knife will be most at home prepping herbs or vegetables.
The handle is made from local Welsh Spalted Beech which has been stablilised to protect it from the elments and paired with grey G10 liners and Aluminium pins.
*Since the blade is made from carbon steel it is NOT stainless and will build up a beautiful and unique patina with use. This blue, grey and black colouring will protect the blade from rust as it builds and acts as a record of all the things it has been through (literally)!
